Description
An iconic group and a major figure of British punk, the Sex Pistols are preparing to shake up the 2026 Carcassonne Festival… with an explosive, irreverent concert at the heart of the Medieval City!
“On the day of his first concert as the Sex Pistols’ singer, in the summer of 2024, Frank Carter was walking near Shepherd’s Bush when a stranger outside a pub shouted to him: ‘The bar is high.’ A few hours later, at Bush Hall, Carter reached it. Over the course of three explosive charity gigs in support of the venue, the Pistols came back to life—reborn with ferocity, humour, and joy. Now billed as Sex Pistols Featuring Frank Carter, the group—Carter, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock—has conquered the globe this year. From Australia to Japan, through European festivals and a legendary show for the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall (where Carter launched a massive circle pit in this historic venue), the new Pistols have once again become a force of chaos and celebration.
Their return to London’s 100 Club sealed the rebirth: in front of an audience that included Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, and Bobby Gillespie, they practically tore the place apart. A historic U.S. tour is on hold after an injury to Steve Jones, but they will soon be back to conquer the continent. For Jones, the mission is simple: “If it’s not fun, I’m not doing it. I’m too old for the bullshit.” And the fun is undeniable. Louis, Matlock’s son, himself a musician, first suggested his friend Carter as the natural choice. A café became the rehearsal space, then Bush Hall. As soon as Cook launched into the drum intro of Holidays in the Sun, it was obvious: “It’s how it was, and how it should be,” he says. Carter’s training for the Pistols began as a teenager in Watford, secretly listening to his father’s vinyl copy of Never Mind the Bollocks. The album’s razor-sharp energy set him on the path to a performer’s career. When he emerged with Gallows in the 2000s, Carter already embodied punk’s dangerous spirit—famous for chasing a fan who threw a pint at him during a gig at the 100 Club, or for releasing the uncompromising Grey Britain after Gallows signed a million-pound record deal. Punk fury, sharpened by wit, ran through his veins. That same energy now fuels his partnership with Jones, Cook, and Matlock.
For the Pistols, this shift feels less like reinvention than renewal. “The three of us learned to play together,” says Matlock. “We grew up as musicians side by side. And today, we might be enjoying it more than ever.” Nearly 50 years after the band blew up British music, their message still resonates. When Carter screams those words, they are not museum pieces—they are living, furious messages addressed to the present. As for what comes next, nobody knows. A return to the United States, certainly, to settle unfinished business, but after that… What is certain is that Frank Carter and the Sex Pistols are storming stages worldwide, vital and unstoppable. And as long as it lasts, it’s worth living. Because we will never see their like again.”
