The legendary funk and disco of Kool & The Gang will make the Théâtre Jean-Deschamps dance on Friday, July 31, to the rhythms of their many worldwide hits: Celebration, Get Down On It, Cherish, Ladies Night, and many more!

Kool & the Gang, officially formed in 1969, is an iconic group known for songs such as Celebration, Cherish, Jungle Boogie, Summer Madness, and Open Sesame. They have won two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, and produced 31 gold or platinum albums. With an uninterrupted career, they hold the record as the longest-active R&B group. Their music has deeply influenced hip-hop, making them one of the most sampled bands, second only to James Brown.

The group, created by Ronald “Khalis” Bell and Robert “Kool” Bell with friends from their neighborhood in Jersey City, blends jazz, soul, and funk. Their 1973 album Wild & Peaceful propelled them to stardom with classics like Jungle Boogie. The 1980s marked their domination with hits like Celebration, Cherish, and Ladies’ Night. In 2018, they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2019, they celebrated their 50th anniversary with numerous honors, including a street renamed after them and the induction of Celebration into the Grammy Hall of Fame. They continue to perform around the world, releasing recent albums such as Perfect Union (2020) and singles like Let’s Party (2022).
