Description

Situated on the right bank of the river Aude, the Medieval Citadel, listed a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a medieval architectural ensemble unique in Europe both for its size and for its excellent state of preservation. Its history has been marked by 2000 years of conquests and by the legacy of Catharism and the Crusades. Accessible both day and night, from the Narbonne and Aude gateways, much of the citadel can be visited for free and without a guide.
